I delivered my baby and they told me that my baby has jaundice. They told me that he has jaundice because my bloodgroup and his bloodgroup did not match. I am aware that there will be problems if my blood group was negative. But my bloodgroup was positive only. I am O+ and my son is B+. The doctor also told me that its very common among Asian babies. I was definitely disturbed initially. But the pediatrician took the time to explain and put me at ease.
He said since our blood groups were incompatible, the baby's liver started creating bilirubin. They take a count of this for the first three days continuously to see if the levels are reducing because the baby pushes it out through the feacus. And then they follow-up with a weekly test and space it from there.
