In India we also follow this:

Week 1 : Rice Water

Week 2: Dal Water

Week 3: Vegetable Water

Week 4 : Khichdi(rice+ Dal+veg+very little ghee)

Pediatricians strongly discourage sugar or salt till the baby turns 1 yr old

Ven Pongal

My baby loves Ven Pongal. I read salt is not good for baby's small kidney. So I add less/no salt. I also give my baby ragi konji. Sometimes I give idly or rava kichdi for breakfast. He loves it. He started taking it from 8th month.

Vegetables as Weaning Food

Vegetables should be first boiled, mashed and strained. The puree can be given to the baby. Some of the vegetables recommended as first foods: Sweet potatoes, aquash, green beans, peas and potato.
